TILTED TRAY
A Valet Tray that tilts with the action of the user’s everyday essentials. Picking up keys and a wallet is a daily action, this design creates another level of interaction for the user.
USER INTERVIEWS
Highlights of interviews from people who use existing valet trays in their daily routine.
“I’d like to see possibly adding a second compartment if able to do without making it a hassle to grab your stuff when trying to leave.”
“Maybe add a separate holder for change/bills for a tray.
“It’s hard to get a grip on things like bobby pins and change sometimes.”
“I’ll often forget to place items back into the tray when returning home.”

REFINEMENT
PROTOTYPING - CNC MILLING

This was the first basswood prototype with a rough sanded finish. This was manufactured by a CNC machine.

This shows an attempt where the wall of the tray was too thin for the high powered passes of the machine.
FINAL CNC
The amount of passes the CNC makes was adjusted. The passes are shown by the calculated lines within the tray.

USER INTERACTION
Made from soft basswood, the tray is CNC milled with sanded edges and curves. In the center of the tray is a smooth spot where coins belong and can easily be grabbed. Creating this interaction of movement sparks the curiosity of how the tray will react when placing daily objects.
