ENCYCLE

The Indoor Electric Bicycle Trainer

This studio was in collaboration with Portland-based electric bicycle company, Vvolt.

OVERVIEW

PROCESS

The process began with a studio-wide ideation session. Dividing quick problem-solving from a range of electric-bicycle opportunities

MARKET RESEARCH

A stationary product for bicyclists to use as at-home training when weather conditions are poor.

Existing trainers either rely on the rear wheel for resistance or completely removing the wheel before a workout.

There’s not an existing trainer for electric bicycles. I explored this while solving some of the remaining problem areas of trainers.

Techno Gym MyCycle Trainer

  • Metal roller removes rear tire tread

  • Must air rear tire to max psi before use

  • Inconsistent roller adjustments

  • Mat recommended for stability

EXISTING PROBLEMS

OR

  • Fully remove rear wheel before workout

  • Buy special tire for training

3D MODELING AND RENDERING

  • The user can control the amount of resistance to activate incline and terrain.

  • The platform invites the user easy connection points and guarantees a level surface for cycling.

  • Can quickly roll on bicycle to begin workout without the calibration process.

3D-Modeled the product in Rhino and Rendered in Keyshot

PRIMARY FUNCTION

VVolt's E-Bikes uses the Gates' Carbon Belt Drive that doesn't require lubrication or additional care.
